Spent New Year's Eve lying prone on my couch, trying to not to move because any movement brought considerable pain in my abdomen.

Spent a large portion of New Year's Day in the hospital. I thought it might be another kidney stone, the last of which I had about 12 years ago. But no, turns out I have diverticulitis. How fun. Could be worse. It's treatable with antibiotics, so hopefully I'll be better in a week or so.

But still, what an unpleasant way to spend New Year's.

And now I find out that Donald Westlake passed away.

Still, I'm looking at these as shitty ways to... well, shit out 2008. I'm not taking them as an omen of things to come in 2009. I'm still optimistic about the coming year.

Now, I'm going to take some pain relievers and try to get some sleep.

Thanks. At least it's at a time where I can just lie around and spend some recovery time, so there's that. But yeah, not a pleasant way to bring in a new year.

Sorry I missed the party last month -- I can't remember if I ever wrote and apologized before. Probably not; I'm a forgetful ass. It was just such a short visit and I was trying to pack too much in. Hope you guys had a great time!

Yuck! I hope you're feeling better today. My sister has diverticulitis (which of course always makes me think of the SNL "Doug and Wendy Whiner" sketches) and from her description it sounds like a lot of no fun.

I am starting to feel better, thanks. The antibiotics seem to be kicking in. Now, instead of it being painful to move, it's merely uncomfortable to move. I'll take that as an improvement!
